People say life is too short, but sometimes it feels really really long. You used to be happyplaying tag with your friends until the sun went down. But then you grow up and you have to figure shit out. What do I want to do with my life? My job sucks. My boss sucks. My colleagues suck. The weather sucks. And you go all the way down the list until you say, “that tree sucks.”
Sometimes, everything sucks.
My friend said the other, “My life is boring. Maybe I need a new apartment.”
People think that if they change their surroundings they’ll be happier. But I found that no matter where you go, unhappiness follows. Change needs to start from within.
Seth Godin said, “Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from.”
But nobody said it would be easy.
There will be roadblocks along the way. But don’t worry, you’re not alone. We’ve all knocked down the Jenga pieces when we were sure we were going to win.
Here are some tips:
1. Do something different. Your best thinking got you to this exact place. So, do something different. Don’t drink as much. Sleep 8 hours. Read books you like. Be around people who inspire you. Exercise. You’ll reap the rewards.
2. Write down 10 Ideas a day. About anything. Don’t worry if they’re bad. The key is come up with 10 ideas. Good or bad. Most will be bad anyway. But every now and then, you’ll have some good ones. Read Claudia Azula Altucher’s bestselling book Become an Idea Machine. Do yourself a favor.
3. Surrender To The Universe. Every tomorrow is determined by every today. So don’t worry about tomorrow. And don’t think about yesterday. Do your best today. Today is all we have. And once you do all you can today, you don’t worry about anything else. You did all you could,
The best part about Jenga is, you can always play again.
